Neighborhood Victim Advocacy

Neighborhood Victim Advocate works collaboratively with the police and court to help victims of domestic violence, elder abuse, robbery, assault and hate and bias crimes feel safer and understand and participate in the criminal justice process. The NVA will make home visits to provide crisis counseling, risk assessment, safety planning, information about the criminal justice process, assistance in filing restraining orders, assistance in completing victim compensation claim forms and education about domestic violence. The NVA will also link clients to other needed community resources. The NVA will conduct community outreach to identify, recruit and assess target population.

A background in the fields of human service and/or criminal justice preferred. The ability to maintain and build positive working relationships with community service providers including law enforcement, mental health, and protective service personnel is essential. A familiarity with local community resources is required. The candidate should understand the dynamics of violence and victimization. Strong communications and organizational skills are necessary. Must have own car and required auto insurance.
